Back in Junior High, I used to play a lot of Risk. What male geek doesn't love Risk? I won a lot too. People feared me, at least as much as various skinny geeks feared various other skinny geeks. Now I play my friends at computer Risk, or, sometimes, at Risk clone Lux. Here are some of my top tips, because, frankly, I like a good opponent!

The Start

• Start away from the action
• Start in a position that offers growth

Strategy

• Keep my borders short
• Fight only total war
• If you cannot defend, deter
• Have a plan?, at least for this turn
• If your plan must succeed completely for you to survive, you have already lost
• Fight one war at a time
• Keep a Bulletproof border
• Always leave your opponent a problem to solve
• Be quiet in Risk card turns
• Do not fear the war of attrition

Tactics

• Take territories, don't fight armies
• Cut off your enemy's armies
• Don't forget, your Enemies cannot attack over their own paths
• Keep an army in being
