PhotographyTips > White Balance Adjustment

The Maxxum 5D -- and probably most digital cameras these days -- allow you to adjust the white balance of the image you shoot. White balance is really just what the camera thinks is white and where it starts to add colors like blue and red and yellow; depending on the light you're shooting in, things may have a color cast overall. Obviously, you'd prefer to have "normal-looking" photos.

The answer is adjusting your white balance. The Maxxum 5D has settings for overcast (makes things blue), tungsten household light (makes things yellow), flourescent office lighting (makes things blue), and more. Select the option that matches your lighting mosts closely.

On the Maxxum 5D you can then adjust a relatively undefined number up or down by up to three levels, each of which is said to equal 10 mireds. Basically, adjusting this number down increases the blue cast to the image, and adjusting it up makes the image redder.
