Mt. Cook is the highest mountain in Australasia.

Hermitage Hotel

Beautiful location and views of Mt. Cook; many just stop over here to get the photos of the mountain! Also has good restaurant.

There are several 2-4 hour hikes from the hotel.

For $95 we can sea kayak across a glacial bay; 3 hours.

Where to stay

The Hermitage Hotel may be expensive. There's a mid-range hotel called the Alpine Lodge. However, it may just be best to make it a day trip from Christchurch.
